Charleston is one of the most charming, quintessentially Southern locations I can think of in the United States. It’s a city full of rich history, welcoming hospitality, gorgeous views, and exquisite cuisine, and it has become a popular tourist destination. Beyond this, many couples seek to wed in Charleston because of the incredible local vendors and stunning backdrops. Popular bridal magazines like Southern Weddings often feature events from pretty Charleston.
As a Charleston wedding photographer, I am fortunate enough to photograph Charleston weddings in so many beautiful venues. In fact, I don’t quite know how people choose between all of the amazing options! With the variety of historic homes, waterfront clubs, restaurants, hotels, and parks, Charleston offers a unique wedding venue for any type of couple.
I am excited to be sharing with you a selection of my top Charleston wedding venues with you all today!
- The Governor Thomas Bennett House
Located in the historic district of Charleston, this home is one of the most stunning options for a wedding backdrop! The wraparound porch and lovely grounds of the Antebellum home allow for the best portraits, and the venue can be dolled up or dressed down, depending on the couple’s preferences. - Historic Rice Mill
The Historic Rice Mill is the perfect location for a couple that wants to mix a bit of history with more industrial or modern vibes. The venue has incredible waterfront appeal (and nice sunsets!), and the rooms indoor contain exposed brick, which is a perfect blank slate for a contemporary affair. - Cannon Green
For all of the foodies out there, Cannon Green is a restaurant venue that supplies incredible food and relaxed energy. It’s located right downtown, and there are several options for “blank slate” options for ceremonies and receptions. It’s perfect for affairs year round! - The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina
Everyone loves a waterfront view, and this venue offers one of the best in Charleston! The Beach Club is the ideal spot for a destination wedding because it can comfortably host out-of-town guests. It accommodates high-end affairs luxuriously and epitomizes elegance. - The Gadsden House
This is another great option for a couple wanting a venue with historic flair. I love the courtyard for a unique ceremony setup, and the bridal suite is to die for! The home is full of natural light and many locations for photo opportunities. - Boone Hall Plantation
Boone Hall Plantation is another all-time favorite Charleston wedding venue for me! This location has iconic rows of beautiful oak trees and impeccable grounds. It definitely displays Southern charm! Click here to see a full Boone Hall Plantation wedding. - The Gibbes Museum of Art
This venue is an incredible option for those wanting something a bit different. With a guest capacity of 900, it’s the perfect option for large events, and there are many backdrops available at the museum. From relaxed garden weddings to luxe indoor receptions, this venue offers options to suit a variety of preferences.
