Dillin + Erika | Annapolis Family Photographer

HannahLane Photography - Annapolis Family Photographer

Dillin and Erika will tie the knot in just a few months! To celebrate their upcoming wedding, we got together for a family photo session in downtown Annapolis. Isn’t this family just gorgeous? I absolutely adored the way that Erika’s daughter loves her new step-dad!

While weddings are my main focus, I truly enjoy my time spent as an Annapolis family photographer. There’s just something about being around amazing people who are taking a little time out of their busy schedules to love on each other and photograph this season of their lives.

Here are four tips to help capture incredible moments during your next family photo session:

Tip 1: Plan for extra time!

I know this is a tough one, but give yourself a little extra time to relax before and after your photo session. This includes leaving a little early in case there’s traffic and not scheduling anything for immediatley after your photos that you’ll have to rush off to. Planning ahead will help keep the stress away.

Tip 2: Bring snacks!

Especially if you have little ones, bring non-messy snacks with you to help keep tummies happy and faces smiling.

Tip 3: Dress for comfort first.

If you’re not comfortable in your clothes or shoes, it will show on your face. Avoid this by planning your wardrobe(s) accordingly. Make sure that the clothing you wear and the shoes on your feet will be comfortable not only for wearing in general, but also for whatever location you’ll be shooting at. For example – in downtown Annapolis, there’s a lot of walking! Comfy and cute shoes are a total life saver.

Tip 4: Relax.

Some of the best moments happen when you aren’t trying. Not every photo has to be perfectly posed and smiling at the camera. Do your best to enjoy your time together and trust that I’ll gently guide you into a few natural poses as necessary.
